(ART) anti-retroviral treatment is currently indicated for all patients infected with HIV-1. The recommended guidelines for initial treatment include two nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors and a third drug, preferably from the integrase inhibitor group. The viral load test is the main tool used for follow-up of HIV patients. It should be undetectable 24 weeks after starting ART, and should be suppressed to achieve good virological control.
