Abstract
Acute meningitis can have many causes, including its association with bacterial infections (pyogenic meningitis). The most important exploration for diagnosis is lumbar puncture, provided there are no contraindications. The morbidity and mortality of meningitis, especially of bacterial origin, are determined by prompt diagnosis and the appropriate empirical treatment.
