EL IMPACTO DEL DIAGNÓSTICO MÉDICO COMO EXPERIENCIA TRAUMÁTICA. ALGUNAS REFLEXIONES

This reflexion article focusses on the subject of the diagnostic process within the medical profession. It explains the repercussions for both the doctor and the patient on the formulation and communication of the latter, framed in the field of giving bad news. We review the emotional impact and the different responses that can occur especially to diagnoses that involve greater seriousness for the patient and / or the family repercussions they may have. It is argued that diagnosis can act as a stressor, and even constitutes a traumatic event. Emphasis is placed on the medical, ethical and legal responsibilities assumed by the physician when making a diagnosis and should inform the patient.
