Abstract
Obesity is a global public health problem. Often changes in the lifestyle associated with pharmacotherapy are not enough, with bariatric surgery being a very good therapeutic alternative. Initially it was thought that the surgery would definitively solve obesity and its comorbidities, generating an enthusiasm oversized. Today we are probably on the plateau of expectations regarding the role of bariatric surgery, since it proves to be the most effective treatment, but also demonstrates a great variability in weight loss. In this article, we will analyze the Longitudinal Assessment of Bariatric Surgery Consortium (LABS) study and if it is only exclusively in this study, the presence of psychopathology explains the variability in weight evolution and the effect of surgery in the evolution of psychopathology.
