Abstract
Nitric oxide is a gas molecule, and a product of converting L-arginine to L-citrulline by a family of nitric oxide synthases, isoenzymes expressed in different parts of the body, including the reproductive organs. In the sperm cells, the lower concentrations of nitric oxide arise from maintaining physiological functions, while high concentrations have a negative impact on sperm quality.
