Validation of the eighth edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer staging system for ampulla of Vater cancer

The eighth edition T category for ampullary cancer does not stratify patients accurately with regard to prognosis. Modification of the current T category with eliminating subcategories (T1, invasion to duodenal submucosa; T2, invasion to duodenal proper muscle; T3, invasion to pancreas or duodenal subserosa) is a better way for determining prognosis of ampullary cancer. The current N category segregates patient survival well.
