Abstract
- Rhaetian to Hettangian shales interbedded in chert in the Katsuyama, SW Japan.
- δ13Corg and major, trace, and rare earth elements data obtained from the shales.
- Three negative δ13Corg excursions (NCIEs) are recognized in the mid-Panthalassa.
- Multiple episodes of volcanic outgassing is a plausible cause for three NCIEs.
- Deep Panthalassa remained under oxic conditions.
