Abstract
												- Model broadband waveform to refine “backthrust” earthquakes in the Mentawai.
- The relocated earthquakes delineate a landward-dipping backstop fault.
- Model 1: Reactivation of the pre-existing fault in the forearc crust.
- Model 2: Unsticking of accretionary wedge and forearc crust (backstop fault).
- Our approach can be generalized to study global earthquakes.
