Abstract
- 3D S-wave velocity structure of the lithosphere beneath the Pamir is constructed.
- Large-scale low velocity anomalies are imaged within the crust and upper mantle.
- Crustal material is pulled down into the mantle by the subducting lithosphere.
- Metamorphism in the subducted crust causes the intermediate-depth seismicity down to 150-180 km depth.
- Detachment of the Indian lithosphere causes intense seismicity in the deep Hindu Kush.
