Abstract
This research, thus, demonstrates that carbonate grains derived from spring-related carbonate deposits, formed mainly near the margins of rift basins, can be incorporated into nearby siliciclastics. If interpreted correctly, they can be used in reconstructing ancient karstic carbonate environments, even when in situ primary record is not preserved - therefore making it possible to access the information stored in freshwater carbonates.
