Abstract
These considerations allow deciphering a general palaeo-environmental reconstruction of the ancient strait which, although suffering of limitations due to a partial preservation of the whole rock record, discloses sedimentary processes and depositional environments of the ancient Messina Strait. The process-based analysis of this field-based case study is crucial in predicting long-term environmental changes and facies migration pathways and improves the state of knowledge on tidal straits, which are the less understood among the most common tidal depositional systems.
