Abstract
The interplay between shortening, the inherited subsalt structure and the preexisting salt structures plays an important role in forming the deformation structures of the cover, which is influenced by an effective salt detachment; the dip and dip direction of the subsalt faults; and the presence of mechanically weak salt bodies that compartmentalizes mechanically resistant cover blocks.247
