Abstract
We use P-wave receiver function H-k stacking and joint inversion of receiver functions and Rayleigh wave dispersions to investigate crustal and uppermost mantle structure beneath the South China. The obtained results reveal prominent crustal structure variations in the study area, Moho depth increases from â¼30â¯km in the Cathaysia Block to more than â¼60â¯km in the eastern Tibetan Plateau. A Moho undulation and Vp/Vs ratio variations can be observed from the Cathaysia Block to Yangtze Craton. These observations consistent with the crustal structures predict by the flat slab subduction model. We interpret these lateral crustal structure variations reflect the tectonic evolution of the Yangtze Craton and Cathaysia Block prior the Mesozoic and the post-orogenic magmatism due to the breaking up of the subducted flat slab and subsequent slab rollback in the South China. The observed variations of the crustal structures not only reveal the lateral crustal inhomogeneity, but also provide constraints on the geodynamic evolution of the South China.
