Abstract
An early and strict BP control in young or middle-aged hypertensive patients in primary prevention should be a priority. In this hypertensive population with low to moderate CV risk, without established CV or renal diseases, more stringent than recommended BP-lowering treatment could potentially prevent hypertensive arterial damage and thus correct the increased residual CV risk later in life. The tolerance of an intensive therapeutic approach should remain a concern in elderly patients and in patients with established CV disease.
