Abstract
Cardiac magnetic resonance, a highly reproducible technique, has become the reference examination for assessing left ventricular functional parameters. Those include ejection fraction, absolute and indexed end-diastole and end-systole left ventricular volumes, indexed and absolute left ventricular mass. ECG-gated CINE balanced fast-field-echo sequences are commonly used for image acquisition. Image analysis is mostly performed in the short axis of the left ventricule while the mitral valve is defined in both vertical long axis and 4-chamber views. Functional parameters of the left ventricule are provided in any cardiac MR examination report; they can be compared to normal values and they are commonly used in the follow-up and treatment of patients with heart disease.
