Abstract
Feeding difficulties are frequent in children with neurological impairment. Undernutrition, growth failure, micronutrient deficiencies and osteopenia can lead to clinical complications in these fragile patients. Gastrointestinal problems including gastroesophageal reflux, constipation or dysphagia are also frequent and can affect the quality of life and nutritional status of children with neurological impairment. To date, a systematic approach for supporting these problems is lacking. A working group of 15 experts from the European Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) recently published guidelines for the evaluation and treatment of these complications. The present paper summarizes the different recommendations.
