Abstract
The suboccipital region (SOR) is both neurologically and vascularly a highly complex region. Because of the complex anatomy of these structures and the existing varieties osteopathic examination and treatment of this region is challenging. The following article shows the interconnectedness of the neurological and vascular systems of the suboccipital region and reviews recent literature to highlight the often neglected anatomical varieties of the SOR. Recent findings of research in the field of vascular and neurological structures and functions of the SOR are described.
