Abstract
The CIE chromaticity coordinates of the Zn1-xAl2O4:xEu2+ phosphors (x = 0.005, 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04 and 0.05) under the excitation of 379 nm are shown. The insets present the images of series of samples excited under 379 nm near the ultraviolet (NUV) lamp, whereas an intense green emission light was clearly observed with the naked eye. The CIE coordinates of the Zn0.99Al2O4:0.01Eu2+ sample were calculated as (0.3323, 0.5538), being close to the CIE coordinates of primary green (0.310, 0.595), as defined by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) Committee, which indicated that the as-prepared phosphor could potentially be used as a green-emitting phosphor for w-LED applications.218
