Abstract
Based on comprehensive studies of workers exposure to radon work activities were identified within which the presence of radon can lead to significant radiation exposures of workers. The concept of radiation protection developed for these work activities was specified in the Radiation Protection Ordinance. Remediation has priority over the inclusion in the control system of radiation protection (monitoring). If the average radon concentration during the annual working time of 2000 h exceeds 1000 Bq mâ3 measures have to be carried out in order to decrease the exposure as low as achievable taking into account the details of the situation. If exposures cannot be decreased below the mentioned level, the exposure of the worker is included in the institutional control of radiation protection and has to be monitored in order to document that the limits of radiation protection are kept.
