Abstract
In the mid-1960s, the nursing profession was challenged and asked to embrace a new model of nursing care that at the time seemed foreign and uncomfortable to many. The pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP) role represented a dramatic change from what had been the traditional role of the nurse.
