Abstract
Nurse leaders face a complex set of challenges, namely, a nursing shortage expected to grow over the next 2 decades and an aging workforce. By 2010, more than 40% of registered nurses (RNs) will be more than 50 years old, and, as these nurses retire, they're not being replaced in equal numbers.1
