Abstract
As nurse administrators and other hospital and health administrators have studied ways to ease the nursing shortage, retention of current nursing staff has become critical. The literature has shown that the nurse manager is a key component in this retention process, yet nurse managers are often thrust into the role without formal leadership or management preparation.
