Abstract
The approach to borderline functioning in perspective of psychic survival, therefore, leads us to suggest that these subjects' “insanity” finds its limits at the boundaries of the body, while never ceasing to return within it. It also suggests the need to explore the issues of transference and countertransference in relation to the questions of self-vigilance and hypervigilance as providing a privileged access to the “dead zones” of the psyche.
