Abstract
Anaesthesia for endoscopic procedures of the supraglottis, glottis and subglottis requires close cooperation between the anaesthetist and surgeon. The preoperative assessment of the patient is discussed and the different types of vocal cord pathology described and illustrated. Anaesthetic techniques for endoscopy are explained and the advantages and disadvantages of closed and open systems are compared. Jet ventilation techniques are also described.
