Abstract
Allergy to buckwheat appears to be a new problem owing to its increased use in the food processing industry. Buckwheat is also used a substitute cereal in children with celiac disease. Allergy to buckwheat should therefore be considered in patients with classic symptoms of food allergy, where the signs are often severe. Cross-reactivity between buckwheat and latex has been demonstrated, therefore allergy to fruits and vegetables that cross-react with latex should be considered in patients who are proven to be allergic to buckwheat. Here we present a case of buckwheat allergy in a child and discuss the relevant literature.
