Abstract
Some of the events that have made a decisive contribution to the development of science in Spain, such as the establishment of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones CientÃficas (CSIC) and the creation of the first Chair of Endocrinology in Madrid are discussed. The vast number of studies on the thyroid that are currently being performed in our institutes are also discussed.
