Abstract
Administering WEFF to STZ-induced diabetic rats lowered the serum glucose level by suppressing the increase in the serum insulin level. The supplementation of WEFF suppressed the increase in the total cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the serum and liver of the diabetic rats. The high-density lipoprotein cholesterol level and glutathione peroxidase activity were higher in the WEFF-supplemented group compared with the other diabetic group. Administering WEFF to the STZ-induced diabetic rats significantly lowered superoxide dismutase and catalase activities. Supplementation of WEFF may be beneficial for correcting hyperglycemia and for preventing diabetic complications.
