Abstract
A cross-sectional study was carried out as part of a research work over ten years in Pinar del Rio province (Cuba). The effects of pesticides exposure on male fertility were examined and the main sources of exposures were described. The effects of these chemical substances on male reproductive hormones and seminal characteristics were determined. The main source of occupational pesticides exposure was linked to tobacco cultivation. Exposure to pesticides was associated with oligospermia, asthenospermia, teratospermia and higher serum concentrations of follicle stimulating hormone.
