Abstract
20% of the patients referred to epilepsy centres with a diagnosis of intractable epilepsy have non epileptic seizures. Non epileptic seizures usually appear to represent the manifestation of a dissociative reaction in response to some past traumatic event triggered by recent stresses. More than their description, often inaccurate, the diagnosis is based on the association of evocative anamnesis and the discrepancy between apparent severity of the complaint and lack of objective findings. In uncertain cases, it must be confirmed by video-EEG. The treatment is based on psychotherapy. Later is the diagnosis, worse is the prognosis.
