Abstract
The aim of this study is to isolate and calculate the volumes of the facial bones and air cavities using 3D CT scan images on a sample of adults (N = 98). The maxilla, the mandible, the maxillary sinuses, the nasal cavities, the ethmoidal sinuses and the frontal sinuses were measured after selection on axial multiplanar slices. Two modelizations (9 points and 6 points) of the maxilla were made and measured. The mean volumes of the mandible, maxilla, maxillary sinuses, nasal cavities, ethmoidal sinuses and frontal sinuses were, respectively: 54.3 cm3, 30.64 cm3, 29.50 cm3, 17.6 cm3, 8.45 cm3, and 7.24 cm3. The linear correlations between all the volumes were measured. They show significant values between the osseous volume and the air cavitiy volumes, as well as between the maxilla volume and the volume of the two maxillary models.
