Abstract
Prolactin, the lactation hormone, has multiple biological and physiological functions, which are most often poorly understood. However, as a result of the identification of the various isoforms of its receptor, our knowledge about this hormone and its actions has been largely improved. Moreover, the fact that models of knockout animals for PRL or PRLR genes have been made available has enabled to identify new target tissues for physiological actions of this hormone.
