Abstract
Transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM) is a proven, safe technique for removing virtually any adenoma and selected rectal cancers. TEM advantages are many and include long reach, superior optics, and better exposure through carbon dioxide distention of the rectum. These features improve access and facilitate excision of rectal neoplasms. Complications are few, and many patients can be treated on an outpatient basis.
