Abstract
Auditory rehabilitation depends of the cause and severity of the deafness. In case of hearing loss due to middle ear diseases (chronic otitis, otosclerosis…) surgical treatment can be indicated to restore the function of the ossicles chain. In the sensorineural hearing losses, the use of hearing aids is immediately considered. If they are insufficient because of the severity of the deafness, a middle ear implant, or a cochlear implant, can be indicated. Bone conduction is indicated to supply hearing loss due to severe middle ear disease, or unilateral total hearing loss. These therapeutic indications are selected after a multidisciplinary evaluation of the deaf person. The rehabilitation of a bilateral hearing has to be done in all cases in order to improve the speech comprehension, even in noisy situations.
