Abstract
The study of blood cellular morphology has progressed greatly over the past few years, after the development of automated hematology analyzers that identify normal blood cells through the use of flow cytometry technology. However, microscopic examination is still essential for the recognition of pathological cells on peripheral blood films. A good knowledge of the morphology of normal blood cells, red blood cells, platelets and leucocytes, is a prerequisite to the study of pathology. Computerization, telemedicine and new communication tools have also improved the teaching of cellular morphology.
