Abstract
⺠We examined the role of comparison between self and other in action understanding. ⺠Comparing familiar and novel actions led to goal imitation in 7- and 10-month olds. ⺠Active production of the familiar action to be compared was critical at 10 months. ⺠Comparison could have a broad impact on the development of action knowledge.
