Abstract
Inflammatory syndromes are more frequent and extended in elderly people. Erythrocyte sedimentation rate, inflammatory protein and particularly the C-reactive protein are the most important biological parameters of its definition. Most often, clinical examination leads to etiological diagnosis, but further investigations are sometimes necessary. If not essential, invasive investigations should be limited. The most frequent etiological diagnoses are: infectious or inflammatory diseases, cancers and vascular pathologies. Therapeutic testing may be tried in extended inflammatory syndrome without etiological diagnosis.
