Abstract
The labial area includes all the soft tissues that constitute the two lips, and the anterior wall of the oral cavity. There are numerous local, regional, or systemic diseases which can mildly or severely affect the lips. Besides, lips also act with other oral components in terms of social function, digestive process, and morphogenetic function, particularly those pertaining to dental arches. Only diseases per se are considered. Subjects such as clefts, traumas or neoplasia are only briefly mentioned since they are described elsewhere in detail. Neurological disorders are not considered.
