Abstract
Before undergoing parotidectomy, patients have some concern with the following points presented in a decreasing order: the facial nerve function, the scar, the soft-tissue defect in the dorsal part of the cheek, and the Frey's syndrome. The aesthetic access route reduces dramatically all these drawbacks. Despite its proven safety and its relevance in the cosmetic field, the aesthetic access route (SMAS flap and lifting incision) is not a routine procedure for many surgeons. The current paper describes this access route. Tricks are pointed out. The aesthetic access route should be the gold standard procedure for parotidectomies, except in case of cancer and in obese patients.
