Abstract
Bacterial meningitis and brain abscess are relatively common intracranial infections. Despite recent advances in understanding of the pathophysiology and improvements in medical care, these conditions cause significant morbidity and mortality in children and adults. This contribution discusses the epidemiology and pathophysiology of these conditions. Treatment guidelines are provided for the more common aetiological agents.
