Abstract
⺠This study examined the types and functions of Mandarin parental other-repetition. ⺠Four types of repetition (exact, reduced, modified, and expanded) were analyzed. ⺠The parents used other-repetition for a variety of communicative purposes. ⺠Parents' other-repetition reflects the attempts to foster interaction. ⺠Parents' other-repetition reflects the particular nature of child-directed speech.
