Abstract

This study examines the question and response system in Korean conversation as part of a comparative project across 10 languages. Using conversation analysis as the primary methodology, this particular study analyzes 352 questions drawn from eight sets of naturally occurring conversations. Based on the analysis of these questions, this study provides an overview of the question and response system in Korean conversation; more specifically, various types of linguistic resources for questions, actions performed through questions, and types of responses to questions. It also discusses noteworthy aspects of actions and sequences compared to the other languages presented in this volume.
