Abstract
We report a case of dedifferentiated adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of the submaxillary gland. A 70 year-old female was referred with rapidly growing tumor at the left cervical region. Tumor resection associated with radical neck dissection was performed. Subsequently, the patient underwent chemoradiation therapy using cisplatin (CDDP) and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), following the administration of S-1, a novel oral derivative of 5-FU. The tumor was composed of aggregates of eosinophilic hyalinized globules and undifferentiated carcinoma. The hyalinized globules showed the immunoreactivity for laminin and type IV collagen. At present, no tumor relapse and metastasis are observed.
