Abstract

This squib is concerned with the meaning of one device used for forming new terms in natural language: the trademark operator. It is argued that this operator yields elements with the semantics of kind terms. Connections are made with quotation and other kinds of punctuation. Finally, semantic and pragmatic accounts of the facts are explored.
