Abstract
Numerous regulatory texts and laws have been edited to control organ or tissue retrieval. Anonymity, respect of the donor's wills, and charge-free acting are some of the essential principles. The conditions of sampling and the validation of donor corneas by an authorized bank of tissues have been significantly improved these past years and should allow, today, identifying samplings associated with a known risk. The number of sampled corneas has been 3-fold increased within the past ten years, reaching a rate of 112 corneas per million of European citizens. Fifty-six percent are utilized for grafting purposes. French legislation complies with European guidelines, and sampling rates are similar to those of other countries at a same level of development.
