Abstract
Only a better understanding of a glaucoma surgery failure will discern the indications for such surgery and improve efficacy. Any element reducing fibrosis will lower the risk of failure. In addition, the prognosis for surgery can be improved by adequate preparation of the conjunctive and the use of antimitotics - 5-fluorouracile or mitomycin C - each operating on a different mechanism and whose indications should be carefully thought out. New research avenues are being explored, notably the concept of slow-release implants of antimitotics.
