Abstract
Vitrectomy with internal silicone oil tamponade improves the anatomical and functional prognosis of retinal detachment associated with giant retinal tear. Recurrent retinal detachment is usually due to relapsing proliferative vitreoretinopathy. The most frequent postoperative complications remain lens opacification and ocular hypertension.
