Abstract
This essay discusses artspeak about music, with particular reference to pop music. It focuses on the difficulty, commented on by various authorities, of finding words in which to describe audible features the hearer listens for in appreciating music as an art form. In the case of pop music, the problem is exacerbated by the absence of any tradition of theoretical writing.
