Abstract
Diaphyseal fractures are characterized by specific anatomical, biomechanical and histological features. Bone lesions are classified according to the type of lesion and their location. Soft tissue injuries are analysed, leading to a classification of diaphyseal fractures in closed and open lesions. Basic principles are proposed, for the diagnosis and the therapy. Early complications and non union events are described. Non operative treatment and osteosynthesis - external fixation, nailing, plating - are studied.
