Abstract
•Evans, 2014a and Evans, 2014b attack on generative linguistics misrepresents the field.•I correct a number of the most egregious mistakes.•I highlight positive aspects of the actual proposals.
This review article examines some of the claims recently made in a book and article by Vyvyan Evans, which argue that the generative approach to syntax is flawed. It exposes a number of misrepresentations, misunderstandings and mistakes in these works and argues that the general case has not been made.
