Abstract
Stress fractures represent 5 to 10% of sports fractures. The base of the fifth metatarsal is regulary affected in football players. We present our therapeutic attitude based on a detailed physiological and clinical analysis. Unlike other sites of stress fractures, we recommend a surgical intervention systematically for stress fractures of the fifth metatarsal. The high risk of failure of conservative treatment of these lesions does not appear to be compatible with the needs of these young patients. We perform osteosynthesis of the fifth metatarsal base by plate and screw fixation to enable early weight-bearing and maximal chances of healing.
